Northern Greece
The newly introduced "Parcel Selection" is arguably the greatest red wine made in Greece. Made from grapes that are hand-picked, from the best parcels of the Magoutes vineyard. When I visited with Dimitris, the first vineyard he showed us was a centenary parcel planted by his grandfather. These bush vines are extremely low yielding, offering intense fruit with great character from the soil. These vines as well as the other best grapes produced in the vintage form the basis for “Parcel Selection.”
The wine is fermented for 30-40 days in French oak tanks, then aged for 12–24 months in 500-liter old oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of aging in bottle.
The 2017 is stupendous, a wine worth trying now but ultimately worth waiting for. It will likely drink its best from 2027 to 2040.
If you love great Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino, Burgundy, or Northern Rhône wines, please trust me that this will be a great addition to your collection. It is worth every penny, and more.
